Classroom Policies
Respect + Responsibility = Results!
Student Expectations:
1. Respect yourself, your teachers, and your classmates:
• Listen to everyone and keep an open mind.
• Speak positively to and about each other and yourself.
Be attentive and contribute to our learning; encourage others to do the same.
2. Respect the personal space of other people:
• Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
• Stay out of others' belongings, including lockers.
3. Respect our community:
• Walk in school.
• Raise your hand to talk.
• Use an indoor voice in the building.
• Take care of school materials.
Clean up after yourself, and help others to do the same.
Remember: No one has the right to disrupt our learning environment.
Discipline Plan: I believe that good classroom management, engaging activities, and mutual respect between the teacher and student alleviate most discipline problems. However, there are situations where students need help managing their behavior. Please review the discipline procedures in the Saline Middle School student planner.
Homework Expectations: Your child should spend an average of 60 minutes each night on homework. Additional time may also be needed to complete long-term assignments and to study for tests. Homework includes work that was not completed in class and possibly any long-term assignments such as projects and reports, so if students do not use class time well, they will have more homework. In general, homework will be pretty consistent each night and will consist of the following:
· 30 minutes of reading each week
· Math Homework - 30 minutes 5x per week
Student Planner: We take time to write in our planners each day and you should see evidence that your child is doing this. I do not sign or check planners unless requested by parents. If this is requested, it is the child's responsibility to bring their planner to me for a signature.
Homework Website: I will make every attempt to post homework each day on our class website, however, this does not replace the use of student planners.
Late Work Policy: Students may lose up to 10 percent if an assignment is turned in late without a legitimate excuse. I will work with students to get their missing assignments completed and submitted within a reasonable time frame, however, some missing work may result in an E for that assignment. *Please note that some assignments require participation on that day, and will be graded on a pass/fail basis. These cannot be accepted late.
Absences: Please contact the office when you know your child is going to be absent. We are no longer able to indicate that the absence is excused; only the office is able to do so. After an absence, all assignments must be made up. The student is responsible for getting their missing work from a classmate or their teacher. A student will be given the same amount of time missed to make up the work. If your child is ill and you would like to pick up their work for the day please contact me and I will do my best to have it available in the office by the end of the day.
