Accessing your child's grades from the PowerSchool Grade Portal
Link to PowerSchool Parent Portal- for some reason I have been unable to open Powerschool using Firefox. If you experience difficulty opening it, try using a different web browser such as Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.
Note: It is my belief that grades, while a firm reality of our current educational system, are an external motivator, and one that can sometimes get in the way of real learning experiences and student growth. I therefor look at grades as a communication tool to keep parents and students aware of their overall standing on selected assignments at that point in time. I will always help and encourage students who have struggled with a topic or an assignment, to continue to work to improve their knowledge of that topic. Most often in these cases, some type of alternate assignment is available to help that student show what they have learned.
GRADING, TESTS, and PROJECTS
Tests and projects will be announced in advance. You can, most often, expect to see graded assignments and tests posted on-line within 1 week. Larger writing assignments and projects will take longer. Communication of your child’s grade happens via the on-line grade book, PowerSchool. Therefore I will assume you are aware of your child’s academic progress at all times unless you indicate to me another method is needed.
For projects I use rubrics that clearly convey what needs to be done to attain each grade. The Middle School is running on a trimester schedule. Every trimester you will be receiving an on-line progress report or report card via your on-line account. If you have any concerns about your child’s grades between these grading periods, please contact me directly.
